Besides you can find a simple tricks with the accumulation > buffers in every openGL book. I think the more common way is to use frame buffer objects for this nowadays. They more flexible and closer to how the hardware works. I think accumulation buffers are going to be removed in OpenGL 3, but I haven't checked the latest spec.
