I like it.  Just a couple of things:

Bump the configure.ac patch version so the 2D driver can depend on the
version.

Maybe have flink (setting global_name) call disable_reuse so we don't
have to check both name and !reuse for whether to not reuse

Slide the new char field down next to the other char boolean so it packs
into what is pad space today.
