I've done a brief delve into the source, and I think you should log
a new bug on your customer's behalf.
Has the customer tried the following operation?
# update_drv -a -i ' "pciex8086,109a.17aa.2001" "pciex8086,109a"
"pci17aa.2001" ' e1000g
(all on one line)
