Second! And thank you very much for driving this!
Can I start to nominate people as initial contributors? Looking at other
communities, I would like to simply nominate listed leaders of device
driver community:
> Riny Qian Work on virtual console project
> Colin Zou Lead USB discuss
> Garrett D'Amore Driver community leader
> Max Bruning Driver community leader
> Masayuki Murayama Contributed many NIC drivers
> Lu, Yunsong (Roamer) Contributed to LongRiver project
> Rui Wang (Vincent) Contributed to LongRiver project and Cardbus
> Javen Wu Contributed to LongRiver project and IBM ServeRaid drivers
plus:
> Paul Durrant
> Dan Mick
Thanks,
Roamer

The driver-discuss community is currently at risk because it has not
identified any Core Contributors. From the OGB perspective, this makes
the group look like it is inactive, and it also means that the group has
no voting representation.
We need to correct this by identifying at minimum 3 Core Contributors.
We can also identify additional Contributors and Core Contributors.
Core Contributors are distinct in that they have voting privileges, and
they really should represent the interests of the group. I think it is
very important that Core Contributors be "in tune" with the community,
by participating on driver-discuss. Just committing code into Nevada
(or any other consolidation) should probably not entitle you to Core
Contributor status, by itself. Of course, it would be nice if they also
have some contributions for which they are well known in the community.
We are also supposed to have some process by which Core Contributors and
Contributors are granted.
I'm going to propose the following simple process, for now:
Identify as "Participants" the union of people who are identified as
either Core Contributors for the Device Drivers Community, or as
Community Leaders for the Device.
Any person who agrees and is nominated by a Participant and seconded
by at least two other Participants, with no objecting Participants
shall be considered a Core Contributor. Any person who agrees and
is nominated by a Participant and seconded by another shall be
considered a Contributor. Self nomination or seconding is allowed.
If there are objectors, then a full majority of Core Contributors
(and not less than 2) can overrule the objector(s).
Of course, we have to have a process to approve this rule, so I'm going
to ask for a simple majority of *responding* Participants (the Leaders,
identified momentarily) to approve the above policy. (This means that
if you don't participate, your lack of participation can't hold up the
vote!) The main thing is to get this thing bootstrapped for now. Once
we have Core Contributors identified, we can change it again later.
So, to those who are on the leaders list (because we have no Core
Contributors as yet), do you approve the process? (Yes? No? Abstain?)
Please respond to [email protected], so everyone knows who
voted and who did not. (I'm not sending this to people not on
driver-discuss, because, by my reckoning, such people aren't active in
the community and therefore probably shouldn't have their votes
considered.)
The list of Community Leaders is:
Riny Qian
Colin Zou
James C. Liu
Kevin X. Song
Garrett D'Amore
Max Bruning
Lu Yun-Song (Roamer)
Masayuki Murayama
Rui Wang (Vincent)
Alta Elstad
Javen Wu
Oliver Yang
Alan DuBoff
