Hello,

I need some help here: I have a mainboard with a S-ATA controller
onboard, which says about itself that it is a Sil3112a chipset. But it
seems that my Opensolaris SXCE b70 is not able to find the disk attached
to it.
Now I have been thinking about getting a cheap new additional controller
with a supported chipset. And it has to be a pci card because my board
has not pci-e or -x.

Looking at my favorite hardware dealer I have the following options:
- NoName S-ATA controller card with Silicon Image SIL3112A chipset
the same chipset I have now onbard, with only two ports
        supports Raid 0 and 1
- NoName S-ATA controller with Silicon Image Sil3114CT176 chipset
I am curious about the 'CT176' part here, four ports
        supports Raid 0, 1 and 10
- Dawicontrol DC-150 RAID with, again, SIL3112 chipset
        2 ports, supports Raid 0 and 1
- Promise SATA300 TX4, I read on some other list, that somebody has it
running on Opensolaris, but also found posts from people asking how to
get it running. But would be a pci Sata300 controller.

What I am wondering about is that all seem to be Raid controllers but
the last one in that list. My onboard controller is also raid, but I
found no possibility to disable that there. If that's the case here,
too, I might have the same issues?

I hope somebody can give me hint here on which controller might be no
pita but just work.

Thanks in advance,

Arvid
