Core Contributors to Device Drivers Community:

It has come to my attention that that some projects are getting
"endorsed" by the community without discussion here. A recent example
is the device mapper project.

I believe it is inappropriate for this community (or any other, for that
matter) to be endorsing projects without at least giving *some*
opportunity for public discussion in this group.

Because of the past history, I would like to re-review the list of
projects that this community has endorsed so far, and request that the
CC's here re-review the list and vote on them once again.

The current set of projects that have this group's endorsement are:

Bluetooth Stack & Drivers <http://opensolaris.org/os/project/bluetooth/>
Brussels - unified NIC configuration
<http://opensolaris.org/os/project/brussels/>
Caiman, Solaris Install Revisited
<http://opensolaris.org/os/project/caiman/>

Session Initiation Protocol <http://opensolaris.org/os/project/network-sip/>
Solaris PowerPC Port <http://opensolaris.org/os/project/ppc-dev/>
Solaris iSCSI Target <http://opensolaris.org/os/project/iscsitgt/>
Suspend/Resume <http://opensolaris.org/os/project/suspend-resume/>
Virtual Console <http://opensolaris.org/os/project/vconsole/>

Of these projects, I'm going to vote +1 to approve all of them, except
that to the following projects which I give a -1, because frankly, they
should not be "endorsed" projects by this group (because they have
little or no overlap with device drivers, not because the projects are
not worthwhile):

Caiman, Solaris Install Revisited: -1
IPsec Tunnel Reform: -1
Session Initiantion Protocol: -1
ON/Nevada Project: -1
Programming Contest: -1 (note that this time frame has expired)
Emancipation: -1 (the project's main focus is libc_i18n and sparc dis --
neither of which are related to drivers)
Network Auto-Magic: -1 (although I could be swayed by the argument that
NIC drivers need to be modified to support link notification, but it
seems a tenuous connection)

Please, before granting any new endorsements to projects (esp. project
leaders --- you know who you are), at least take the minimal effort to
get 3 or more +1's and no -1's. (I'm not sure what the recourse is
when a project is given a -1...)

Thanks!
