There is a smart card framework in Solaris (SCF), although it is
probably of limited use. (I believe there are plans afoot to remove it,
actually, in favor of some other Linux-derived source. But I'm not sure.)
Getting the smart card readers hooked up so you could use them with your
browser (Mozilla derived such as Firefox) would require the following:
1) USB device drivers for your readers (libusb is probably sufficient)
2) SCF framework
3) plugin for SCF into the Solaris EF (encryption framework) and KMF
(key management framework).
4) support in the browser for PKCS#11 (I think Firefox already has it)
I don't know what pieces are missing, because, quite frankly, I've never
had cause to try this.
