I would like to propose a new Open Solaris project for generic RAID
configuration utility.
The generic RAID configuration utility will support mpt, mpt_sas and
other compatible open source drivers on Open Solaris; it will be capable
of performing basic RAID configuration tasks, including creating and
deleting RAID arrays, maintaining global/local HSP (hot spare pool)
disks, and querying RAID object information. For more details, please
refer to PSARC 2005/204 and its evolvements (2006/663, 2007/667,
2008/458, 2008/731 and 2009/040).
The project will simply cover the above basic features, and a future
complete RAID solution can be brought up with some enhancement. The
possible enhancement may cover some of the following:
Support for more RAID products (like LSI SAS2.0 support, Intel SAS
support, HP RAID support, nVidia RAID support, etc);
Support for OpenSolaris Automated Installer;
More RAID components like add-on cache/battery module support;
RAID system monitoring and diagnostic features;
GUI based user interface;
Support for soft RAID and/or soft volume configuration;
RAID system monitoring and diagnostic features;
More advanced RAID configuration features (like array extension, data
migration, etc)
