Hi Paul, I have realized such an old HID issue happening on old Mac books and some MicroSoft HID devices. The root cause is that the set_protocol operation in solaris hid driver/module confused some HID devices which don't support Report_protocol. The issue will be fixed in the following Solaris Nevada 1 or 2 build.
