Hi, I could use some help in making opensolaris access my one terabyte external USB Hitachi hard drive. When I power on my Hitachi external USB hard drive, opensolaris file browser displays four labels "USB Drive" in its left pane window. When I click on any of them, nothing happens. My Hitachi 1TB USB hard drive has three partitions of about 300 GB each: the first partition is Fat32 LBA (Win 95 FAT 32 LBA 0x0c) the second is ntfs (0x07) and the third is ext4 (0x83). Opensolaris does not display the files for any of my partitions. I especially creted the FAT 32 LBA on the 1TB external hard drive because I thought open solaris may recognize a FAT 32 partition because it recognizes a 4 GB SanDisk memory stick that is also formated as FAT32; the 4GB memory stick is FAT 32 non LBA, namely, vfat FAT 32 (0x0b). Windows XP did not want to format my external hard drive with FAT even when I formated it from the command prompt with a FAT switch (format /FS:FAT32 E:), but this command formatted the partition with ntfs anyway. So then I used Ubuntu to format the first partition of my 1TB USB external hard drive with FAT 32; it did not give me a choice between FAT 32 as it is on my 4GB memory (0x0b) stick or the one that it formatted with (0x0c).
I also have an SanDisk 4GB memory stick and this works fine in opensolaris; opensolaris dispays it with the label "NO NAME" in the left window pane of file browser and displays it's content in the right pane so that I can use the files contained in it. I read a different thread in the open solaris posts: http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=372450 and according to the above thread I modified my /kernel/drv/scsa2usb.conf I added this to the end of my scsa2usb.conf file: attribute-override-list ="vid=* reduced-cmd-support=true"; I still can't access my Hitachi 1TB external USB hard drive. The only thing that changed is the writing that opensolaris' File Browser displays for the four "USB Drive" name labels; before instead of "USB Drive" it showed different names but it still does not work. Opensolaris is installed on a 120 GB WD internal hard drive as it iostat -En shows below on the first line; my 120 GB WD works well. The command iostat -En shows the following when I type it in a terminal window: 888888888888888888888888888888888 begin iostat -En un at opensolaris:~$ iostat -En c7d0 Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0 Model: WDC WD1200JB-00 Revision: Serial No: WD-WCAL933 Size: 120.03GB <120031543296 bytes> Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0 Illegal Request: 0 c8t0d0 Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 10 Transport Errors: 0 Vendor: HL-DT-ST Product: DVD-RAM GH10L Revision: FC09 Serial No: Size: 0.00GB <0 bytes> Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 10 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0 Illegal Request: 0 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0 c9t0d0 Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0 Vendor: Mass Sto Product: 920321111113 Revision: <683 Serial No: Size: 0.00GB <0 bytes> Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0 Illegal Request: 0 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0 c9t0d1 Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0 Vendor: Mass Sto Product: 920321111113 Revision: <683 Serial No: Size: 0.00GB <0 bytes> Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0 Illegal Request: 0 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0 c9t0d2 Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0 Vendor: Mass Sto Product: 920321111113 Revision: <683 Serial No: Size: 0.00GB <0 bytes> Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0 Illegal Request: 0 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0 c9t0d3 Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0 Vendor: Mass Sto Product: 920321111113 Revision: <683 Serial No: Size: 0.00GB <0 bytes> Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0 Illegal Request: 0 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0 c11t0d0 Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0 Vendor: SanDisk Product: U3 Cruzer Micro Revision: 0010 Serial No: Size: 4.10GB <4103937024 bytes> Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0 Illegal Request: 28 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0 c11t0d1 Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0 Vendor: SanDisk Product: U3 Cruzer Micro Revision: 0010 Serial No: Size: 0.01GB <6291456 bytes> Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0 Illegal Request: 75 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0 un at opensolaris:~$ 888888888888888888888888888888888888 end iostat -En The df -h command shows me: 888888888888888888888888888888888888 begin df -h un at opensolaris:~$ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on rpool/ROOT/opensolaris-2 96G 6.2G 90G 7% / swap 2.7G 316K 2.7G 1% /etc/svc/volatile /usr/lib/libc/libc_hwcap2.so.1 96G 6.2G 90G 7% /lib/libc.so.1 swap 2.7G 52K 2.7G 1% /tmp swap 2.7G 48K 2.7G 1% /var/run rpool/export 90G 21K 90G 1% /export rpool/export/home 90G 28K 90G 1% /export/home rpool/export/home/un 100G 11G 90G 11% /export/home/un rpool 90G 82K 90G 1% /rpool /dev/dsk/c11t0d0p0:1 3.9G 3.1G 812M 80% /media/NO NAME /dev/dsk/c11t0d1p0 5.5M 5.5M 0 100% /media/U3 System un at opensolaris:~$ 8888888888888888888888888888888888888888 end df -h I don't know what the fdisk -R -W command is supposed to do but it gives me nothing even for my working internal hard drive and working 4GB USB memory stick: 888888888888888888888888888 begin fdisk -R -W un at opensolaris:~$ fdisk -R -W -
