I'm finishing up a blog post with instructions for test writers and that should certainly help you. In the meantime, it may be that you'll just have to hang out on IRC for a while and dig through the code to familiarize yourself with the basics (it takes a LONG time...) :) In addition, we need assistance, as always, in *managing* the tasks that contributors work on, via Launchpad, so familiarizing yourself with Launchpad is a great idea.
