Hi!

Me neither.

I am, its huge step from closed source. I've been trying to get my
hands on this software for some time but couldn't - Now I can.

Well, the ICE hasn't got DELETE UPDATE INSERT. Loading data is done
through LOAD DATA INFILE (which has been modified in the infobright
version - syntax is the similar or the same, implementation is
different). The subscription paid for loader facility is claimed to be
faster but I don't know what that's based on.

I am pretty sure they have talked about business models, I am not sure
how much those talks involved community contribution processes.

Well, I think its important to recognize its not just an ordinary
storage engine but 'with column storage'. I can't judge it in
technical detail but I got the impression their architecture and
metadata are so different that they really need a different kind of
optimizer too.

On a more general note - that would be an interesting experiment for
drizzle - how to make the plugin system so that you can not only plug
in storage, but also change the parser to properly address the
features brought by that particular SE and the optimizer smarts to
actually take advantage of a particular engine.

This is probably the direct consequence of their subscription
offering. (I am not saying this is good or bad, nor offering any
business model alternatives - just hypothesizing how it relates)

kind regards,

Roland
