Hi!
I would like to see the pluggable parser done so that we could support
Grant/revoke (with 3A). We just need the parser to support drop/pass
to do this. Kostja had a good idea for replacing the execution switch
which I have been extending to allow for pluugable execution
(basically an object creation in the parser for COM).

One of my favorite problems that becomes more important in a cloud
is
management of the server process. mysqld has /etc/init.d/mysql and
mysqld_safe. Is it drizzled in this case? What exists to control it?
Actually, /etc/init.d/mysqld is distro-specific and oftentimes is
written and maintained by the distros...
We don't have drizzled_safe. We also don't have drizzleadmin any
more.
To shutdown or ping the server, just use the drizzle client:
drizzle --shutdown --port=XXXX
drizzle --ping --port=XXXX
Neither of these requires one to be logged-on to the box IIRC. Just
supply a --host param.
There was talk of a --restart command to be added, too.
The interfaces for /etc/init.d/mysql and mysqld_safe are somewhat
limited and require the admin to be on the box. Does drizzle have
plans for something that supports an API that doesn't require me to
login to a box? And of course, this still must authenticate my
attempts to administer the box.
Well, describe what your ideal interface/API would look like. What
would be the best tool for your needs? How exactly would you want to
work remotely with the servers? If you could give command-line (or
script) examples of what would be ideal, that would be great! :)
mysqld configuration and control is extremely unpleasant imho.
Just some thoughts on improvement:
- API for admin operations such as shutdown, if not there yet,
likely with correspondent grantable privileges
* doesn't have to be super, an admin that can restart the server
but can't read any user data would be nice
- single configuration file, could be registry on Windows,
* configurable location + drizzled startup parameter to allow
multiple servers
* API to query the values of the config parameters in the file, API
to change them persistently
* some binary format the best, with a utility to convert it to
and from a text format, to allow changing parameters
by text editing but discourage messing the file with the editor
directly
* what if someone changed a parameter and now drizzled won't start?
Not sure.
I guess the API or at least the conversion utilities should be able
to work without drizzled, including using OS authentication only.
On the other hand th preferred mode of operations should be
connecting to a drizzled first and mangling its current config file
with the API, could even have SQL interface and some control through
GRANT/REVOKE.
