My name is Andreas Turriff, I am one of the students working with Eric Day on the rewriting of the Drizzle client. We are, at present, gathering requirements for the new client, and I have a number of questions I believe community input would be valuable on.
1) How recent can we assume an evironment for this client to be? Is it expected to run on RedHat 5.1? FreeBSD 2.x? Or can we assume more recent environments, up to and including "bleeding edge only?" 2) Should we, if that choice needs to be made, prioritize support for older environments, or can we drop support if needed? 3) Is the client expected to run on a DBA's workstation, the database server, or both? Should we bother to make the code Windows-safe, if we use a scripting language available for Windows? 4) Should we provide input files for popular package managers? spec files?
