Hi gang! So, first of all, I'd like to say that everyone is truly impressed with the outpouring of enthusiasm for Google Summer of Code projects for Drizzle! Compared to last year, the number of students is way up!
For those students who are interested in picking up C++ projects for Drizzle, I wanted to provide you with a few links that may be useful for you. Remember, come hang out on IRC Freenode.net #drizzle channel if you need to ask any questions. There are other GSoC students there like "neh" and "spsneo" who have been helping students get accustomed to IRC and Drizzle development. Feel free to digitally drop by the channel. OK, so for student coders, getting your development environment set up is important, and learning to use Bazaar and Launchpad are equally critical. My blog has a few articles that go over these things. Please do email or ping me on IRC if you follow the tutorials and have problems with any of the instructions! http://www.joinfu.com/2008/08/a-contributors-guide-to-launchpadnet-part-1-getting-started/ http://www.joinfu.com/2008/08/a-contributors-guide-to-launchpadnet-part-2-code-management/ http://www.joinfu.com/2008/08/getting-a-working-c-c-plusplus-development-environment-for-developing-drizzle/ Once you have your development environment established, you will want to read carefully this document on our wiki which describes the Drizzle contributor coding style guidelines and practices: http://drizzle.org/wiki/Coding_Standards After that, you will probably want to head over to the list of low-hanging fruit milestone tasks and see if any of them interest you. If none do, hop on to IRC and I'm positive we can find you starter tasks to sink your teeth into! :) https://launchpad.net/drizzle/+milestone/low-hanging-fruit Cheers, and happy coding! -jay _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~drizzle-discuss Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~drizzle-discuss More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
