You can say hi to both of them for me :) > Firstly, I would like to know what motivates people to be involved > with Drizzle. Are you 'scratching an itch'? Do you just love > database programming? Are you paid to work on it? Ego-boo? all of the above :) All the initial ideas and goals of what became Drizzle I was very much in line with. I wanted a better SQL server that was built for what people are doing (and will be doing) with databases in the modern web world (and other applications, but they tend to fall out relatively easily after you get a bunch of things right). > Secondly, I would like to know which companies are commercially > invested in Drizzle. Who employs you to work on Drizzle? I'm employed by Rackspace to work on Drizzle. Previously I worked at Sun, on Drizzle. Before I started working on Drizzle I worked on MySQL Cluster for MySQL AB, who was bought by Sun (and that's how I joined Sun). > And thirdly, I would like to know who wears what hats. You can think of everybody owning every bit of the code.. with some just being more expert in areas than others. We haven't quite gone to a maintainer-of-subsystem thing yet (and we may never). There are certainly maintainers of some Storage Engines though. - PBXT - the PBXT guys - BlitzDB - (in the tree any day now :) Toru - Embedded InnoDB - Stewart (me!) - MyISAM - whoever ends up removing it from the tree gets a cookie! - table function engine - Brian > Perhaps something like the following: > Benevolent Dictator For Life (BDFL): Brian Aker > Project leader: Brian Aker > Code commit 'Captain': Brian Aker although others put in 2c too... but Brian wields the magic push to trunk :) > Spokesperson: Brian Aker > Release Manager: ?? probably the closest we have is Lee... mixed with Brian and the lot of us. > Hudson Manager: ??
