I'll look in to this in a bit... I'd love to find out what the issue is here. The way it's _SUPPOSED_ to work is that we're supposed to be testing various elements of how dtrace works during configure and then doing the right thing during make. So maybe there's another dtrace behavior out there we're not taking in to account.
What version of dtrace and what version of OSX are you on?
