How do you all feel about using java 1.6?
The reasons I would like to see java 1.6:
1. (minor) @Override annotaion for interfaces
2. (minor) StAX APIs are part of the core java API
3. (minor) bunch of JMX monitoring extensions
4. (real reason) Make modern JRE a base requirement. It is easier
to convince folks they need to upgrade if it is a requirement...
This also may hinder adoption, which is also critical at this stage.
While I'm all for 1.6 now that OS X has it, I hesitate to make it a
requirement. That being said, we were forced, in Mahout, to go to 1.6
b/c Hadoop went to 1.6. It wasn't a big deal, but it's just one more
thing to deal with.
