FWIW I use DropWizard to talk to Solr. I don't think DW needs to provide such plugins (be it ES, Solr, whatever)... there are a huge variety of software that could theoretically have it's own DW plug in. It's easy to configure a SolrClient. I think it would be better if the DropWizard project provided a place on the website for published examples of how to configure various 3rd party software out there. The project as a whole could then accept PR's to add docs.
