At Princeton we use CAS Authentication. I am not sure where the code came from
since it was already in place when I joined. It does have an issue where it
goes into a loop when authenticating successfully against CAS with an account
that is not configured in the DSPACE EPerson table. This is due to Princeton
not allowing users to create their own accounts.

If there is interest I be happy to discuss the details, digg up code, …

Hi Lorenzo,

All DSpace features are community developed features (we don't have a central
development team), and we welcome contributions for new authentication methods
from anyone (see Code Contribution
Guidelines<https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Code+Contribution+Guidelines>).
As you've discovered, there is early community work on building out CAS
protocol support, and it is being tracked mostly in this ticket:
https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-1028

Unfortunately though, as of right now, this effort has stalled. The original
code was found to be a bit buggy, and other developers had asked for code
updates to stabilize & cleanup the code. Currently, that code has not yet been
updated based on that initial feedback. If you or someone else would like to
help contribute to moving these ideas forward, we welcome any contributions to
add CAS support. At this time, the code is simply waiting for a new volunteer
to help move it forward (or create a new plugin if the old code is lacking),
and we don't know exactly when that new volunteer will appear.

If anyone reading this thread is also interested in this effort, or has
developed their own local CAS plugin, I'd also encourage you to contribute it
back to DSpace (ideally, via a GitHub Pull Request mentioning the above DS-1028
ticket).

Thanks,

Tim

Dear All,

We want to use our institution's Single-Sign On (SSO) system to authenticate
our users using the CAS protocol. We find this plugin
(https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/CAS+and+SAML+Authentication) in
"Development Projects". There are possibility that a new official method of
authentication will be implemented using the CAS protocol and include it in
DSpace as authentication plugin
(https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/Authentication+Plugins#AuthenticationPlugins-ExampleofaCustomAuthenticationMethod).

On the other hand, someone can tell us how she/he approached the topic of
connecting DSpase with an SSO system using CAS protocol.
