Hello Ákos,

DSpace 7 is still under active development at this time, and the latest
status can be found at:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+Release+7.0+Status

I've also updated the out of date information on the Roadmap:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/RoadMap

DSpace 7 is not yet in alpha or beta stage, but I'd anticipate it moving
into that stage in late 2018, with a final release sometime in 2019.
However, we are still looking for more institutions / individuals to get
involved in the development process -- if we find more resources /
volunteers, it's very possible the final release date could be moved up.
Anyone interested in getting involved can get in touch with me, or join one
of our public DSpace 7 Working Group meetings:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+7+Working+Group

Much more info about DSpace 7 current status will be coming to this mailing
list in the coming months...we're looking to also have workshops and demos
at the upcoming Open Repositories 2018 conference in June (
http://www.or2018.net/).

But, as to your question, Ákos, I'd recommend upgrading to DSpace 6 if you
need a more immediate upgrade. The timelines for DSpace 7 are not yet set
in stone.
