We have some cases where a single person has been the author of some items in
our repository and the advisor on other items. In these cases, we are seeing
duplicate entries in the author browse on DSpace. This is because when the
person is an author, they are given one authority key, and when they are an
advisor they are given a different authority key. We have tried applying the
same authority key to both situations in order to merge the entries, but DSpace
will not let us do this.

If seeing an example in action will help:

Here is a link to our DSpace instance: https://dspace.aus.edu:8443/xmlui/browse

Peter Crompton has two entries in our author browse; one with 19 items he
authored, the other with 4 he advised on. We have tried changing the authority
key on his Advisor items to his Author one and vice versa but DSpace seems to
force them separate.

[19] - Author "5314b715-a110-4554-95f8-869bff410cd6"
[4] - Advisor "798a55e5-23c6-4008-b158-42883c3d7d00"

If you have any insight or advice as to how to merge an individual's
identities, please let us know.

I apologize for cross-posting.
