Dear DSpace Colleagues, The regulations introduced by the European Union in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) are still a concern for DSpace’s users worldwide. The DSpace Leadership Group would, therefore, like to establish a “DSpace GDPR Working Group.” to ensure documented compliance with the GDPR regulations.
The goals of the DSpace GDPR Working Group are: 1. to determine if and which changes are necessary for DSpace to become fully compliant with GDPR; 2. to explore whether recommendations can be given about how to run DSpace in a GDPR compliant way (including recommendations for a data protection statement and regarding DSpace’s configuration); 3. to enhance the DSpace manual/documentation with regard to the GDPR and data protection; 4. to implement necessary code changes in cooperation with the DSpace committers. The DSpace Leadership Group wants to emphasize that the WG will be more successful if its membership is a good balance between technologists/developers, librarians, and repository managers. Please consider volunteering for the Working Group independently from your technical skills or subject expertise. Everyone is welcome to engage in this working group. While it is up to the Working Group to arrange its meetings, it is recommended that the Working Group meet twice a month in order to accomplish the goals in a timely manner. A doodle poll will be set up as soon as the time zones of the participants can be identified. The first meeting of the DSpace GDPR Working Group will be scheduled for the first week of February 2019. This Working Group will be led by Pascal Becker (The Library Code GmbH / TU Berlin). If you are interested in being a part of this DSpace GDPR Working Group or think you can help the community in any other way as related to GDPR, please contact Pascal Becker by January 25, 2019, at < [email protected]>.
