Hello DCAT, Regarding the conversation we had at the end of today's meeting regarding CORE and their practice of harvesting and reposting files in addition to metadata:
In case people want to pursue this further with them in the meantime, the person I've spoken to most recently about this is Nancy Pontika, PhD Open Access Aggregation Officer, CORE [email protected] (CORE's more general email, which you probably already know, is [email protected]) As mentioned on the call today, we were successful in getting them to stop providing direct access to files in 2019. Their links to full text now redirect to Deep Blue, our DSpace repository. I don't know whether they've changed their metadata harvesting schedule as well. I hope so, and asked them to do this, since if they don't keep their database current, items that were once available but then had to be fully embargoed may still display there. These cases are rare, as they should be, but one such case is how the problem with CORE first came to light for us. An author who did get a retroactive embargo placed on their thesis was alarmed to find their work still available, and assumed it was through Deep Blue. (And I guess it was, though indirectly and very much to our surprise!) Cheers, Jim On Mon, May 10, 2021 at 1:25 PM Maureen P.
