Hi Steve, DSpace will only perform full-text indexing if you schedule its "Media Filters" to run (via the './dspace filter-media' script). This script also enables thumbnails to be generated. See the docs at https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Mediafilters+for+Transforming+DSpace+Content
