Thanks Craig, that helped a lot actually.
I did a bit more teasing, and the media viewer appears to work differently
than I expected. The highest ranked bitstream in the ORGINAL bundle gets
the thumbnail spot in the upper left corner of the page (assuming a
relatively standard DSpace theme). If that first bitstream is a video, the
media player will appear in that thumbnail spot. None of the other
bitstreams get any special treatment, no matter what their mime type is.
I was hoping that perhaps the download links for each bitstream would be
replaced with some sort of media viewer links. With our collection, each
item generally has a primary document (PDF) and supplemental materials
(video files, images, data files etc) and that PDF is almost always the
first bitstream. Which seems to be why I though the media viewer wasn't
working.
