Hi Bruce,

At this point in time, the CSV ingest process (which uses Batch Metadata
Editing) doesn't support adding any content files during the ingest. It
only supports metadata-only Items. See the docs
at:
https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Batch+Metadata+Editing#BatchMetadataEditing-AddingMetadata-OnlyItems

So, it's not possible to add thumbnails in this way.

However, after an Item is created, it is possible to auto-generate
thumbnails for any content files using the Media
Filters:
https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Mediafilters+for+Transforming+DSpace+Content

You can also replace any auto-generated thumbnails with any content you
wish... you'd just need to replace the auto-generated file in the THUMBNAIL
bundle of the Item (see the Edit Item -> Bitstreams tab)

Hopefully that gives some hints some possible solutions. If you have other
questions, feel free to ask on this list.

Tim
