Digital Curation Archivist (Archivist III/IV)

The Georgia Tech Library seeks a collegial, innovative archivist (open rank 
to be determined) to lead and support Library initiatives to preserve and 
sustain long-term access to Georgia Tech special collections and university 
archives in digital form, furthering the Library's mission to define 
excellence in the preservation, curation, and stewardship of the 
Institute's unique digital assets. The position also oversees the retroTECH 
service, which provides hands-on learning opportunities related to digital 
archives and the histories and futures of technology. The position reports 
to the Head of the Archives, Records Management, and Digital Curation 
Department.

*Responsibilities*

Primary responsibilities of this appointment will be to provide and improve 
library services and resources; enrich the research, learning, and 
scholarship of the Georgia Tech community 

 

*50% Archival Work* 

   - Leads the University Archives and Special Collections Repository 
   Service and implements strategies, policies, and procedures for preserving, 
   describing, and delivering born-digital special collections and university 
   archives, based on professional good practice and collaboration with 
   colleagues 
   - Co-leads the Georgia Tech Digital Repository with Digital Curation 
   Librarian and works with vendors and local IT to design technology product 
   workflows  
   - Serves as Product Owner for key digital curation systems (ArchivesSpace
    and Archivematica) supporting the University Archives and Special 
   Collections Repository Service 
   - Leads the retroTECH service team
   - Curates software and hardware collections that include and reflect the 
   diverse historical record of technology cultures at Georgia Tech
   - Oversees the retroTECH Lab, collection acquisition and cataloging, 
   assessment, outreach, instruction, and partnerships with other Service 
   Owners within the Library and campus

*30% Administrative** Duties*

   - Supervises Digital Accessioning Archivist, Digital Projects Specialist 
   I, and possible interns and/or students on projects and services related to 
   digital curation and retroTECH
   - Mentor and guide direct reports on job responsibilities and promotion 
   process (faculty only) 
   - Conduct annual performance evaluations for direct reports ensuring 
   that evaluations are conducted in a timely manner and submitted in 
   accordance with campus and library policy 

 

*10% Scholarship and Creative Endeavors* 

   - According to expectations for library faculty members, contribute 
   professionally through research, scholarship, and creative activities. 

 

*10% Service to the Library, Institute and Archival Profession* 

   - Foster positive relations with faculty, students, and staff and 
   promote the Institute and Library¿s commitment to diversity, equity, and 
   inclusion. 
   - Serve on library and university committees as assigned
   - Contribute to the profession through service to professional 
   organizations at the local, state, regional, and national levels, as 
   appropriate. 

*Minimum Salary: $90,500*

Required Qualifications

*Archivist III*

   - Appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association 
   (ALA) - accredited Master's degree, a degree in a subject related to 
   archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.
   - A strong record of scholarship and service demonstrating significant 
   contributions to the librarian/archivist profession.
   - 10 years of professional experience.

*Archivist IV*

   - Appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association 
   (ALA) - accredited Master's degree, a degree in a subject related to 
   archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.
   - A strong record of scholarship and service demonstrating the highest 
   standards of professional contributions to the librarian/archivist 
   profession and are recognized widely by peers.
   - 15 years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

·       2-3 years experience with preservation and curation systems, such 
as Archivematica, Preservica, and BitCurator for processing and access of 
digital collections 

·       3 years experience with supervising faculty and staff

·       6-8 years experience utilizing ArchivesSpace to facilitate 
processing and access collections in the Archives holdings 

·       9-10 years experience with Encoded Archival Description (EAD), 
Dublin Core, Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), METS, PREMIS, 
and other related archival descriptive standards

·       10 years of professional experience in academic libraries and other 
archival institutions 

·       10-12 year experience with arranging, describing, and providing 
access to physical and/or digital collections 

·       Demonstrated experience utilizing DSpace to facilitate processing 
and access to digital collections in the Archives holdings 

·       Working knowledge of preservation and curation systems (
Archivematica, Preservica, or BitCurator) for processing and access of 
digital collections 

·       Demonstrated knowledge of current national data content and 
structure standards related to the archival control of collection materials 

·       A strong record of scholarship and service demonstrating 
significant contributions to the librarian/archival profession 

·       The ability to perform physical activities associated with the 
archival environment
