Martin, thank you for the question.

SCOSS fundraising and the DSpace Development Fund are separate fundraising
efforts with separate aims. In both cases, institutions may become members
of DSpace through their contributions, but the funds themselves are tagged
for specific initiatives.

Funds raised through the SCOSS campaign go towards a couple of defined
goals: funding a program coordinator position and a software development
position. Thus far, we've raised enough through this effort to fund a
part-time program coordinator, as I mentioned. Separately, funds raised
through the DSpace Development Fund go towards paid development (i.e.
contracting with developers for governance-defined development goals).
Right now we're raising funds to accomplish some web accessibility
objectives
<https://groups.google.com/g/dspace-community/c/Dhs5RkrafaY/m/MgaxPKxKAAAJ>.

Regarding SCOSS fundraising specifically and DSpace membership: SCOSS
contributors become DSpace members for the term of their commitment
(typically a 3-year commitment). We have mapped the SCOSS recommended
contribution amounts onto the DSpace Membership levels
<https://dspace.lyrasis.org/membership/> to allow these contributors to
participate in the regular DSpace governance structure. Our hope, of
course, is that these organizations will continue to participate as DSpace
members beyond the initial commitment.

I hope this helps answer your question. Please let us know if you have
further questions or concerns.

Best,
Kristi
