Hi Conor,

Yes, a 500 error from the frontend generally means the backend is 
"inaccessible" to the frontend.  Either the backend has not started 
properly, or it's somehow blocked from the frontend, or your configuration 
is incorrect (and the frontend is trying to access the backend via an 
incorrect URL).   See our "Common Installation Issues" for ways to debug
