There have been some lively discussions on the DSpace-architecture
list this week, notably in this thread on identifiers:

http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=48F73341.1070006%40caret.cam.ac.uk&forum_name=dspace-architecture

The debate on using simple strings, a DSpace-specific identifier
technology (like the code presently on the trunk of the dspace SVN),
or java.net.URI is still active.

Many of the fundamental service interfaces have been roughed out. You
can see the progress on the Jira at http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DSB
, and view the code in the sourceforge repository:
http://dspace.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/dspace/dspace2/

The work committed thus far is subject to further design revision, and
input from the community is welcome.
