I cannot get controlled vocabularies to work. I must be doing something
wrong but I have no idea what. I hope someone can help me please.
Utlimately I want to define my own controlled vocab but I am starting by
using SRSC which comes with DSpace 1.5.1 as standard. I edited the forms
definition file and enabled controlled vocab in dspace.cfg, as per the
documentation. I then entered an item with dc.subject set to one the subject
names in SRSC. This did NOT result in the subjects further up the hierarchy
automatically being created. Also when I edited the metadata to specify
dc.subject I did not get a dropdown with subjects names from SRSC as I
expected. Where am I going wrong please?
As further proof that controlled vocab is not working properly in my env I
added another item with a dc.subject related to the first. The first was
'software engineering', the second was 'IT technology'. These subjects
appeared as peers, rather han software engineering being under IT
technology. This is the std non-controlledVocab way of doing subjects. So
the feature does not seem to be enabled in spite of my dspace.cfg changes.
