Hi Alexander,
The ideas on http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/Summer_of_Code_Ideas are just ideas really, and so the projects are open to discussion. So with this project, no one has decided exactly what sort of reminders or notifications there should be. Part of your project plan could be to spend a week talking to users of the Dspace software to find out what their real requirements are, and then use those as the basis of your development work. Or, if you've tried the software and have thoughts about what reminders or notifications are missing, we'd love to hear about that in your application. We're looking for project that will help us improve the Dspace software, meet the needs of users, and fit in with our current and future architectures. When we mark the applications we often look at the skills of the student and how they interact with the Dspace community (so emailing us was good J) as much as the proposed project, as we realise that unless you have been using the Dspace software for a long time, it is difficult to put together a proposal that is polished and complete. One type of alert that is currently missing from Dspace and would be very handy would be to allow users to create saved searches that could send out alerts (email / RSS) when new items are added that match their saved search. What kind of reminders are supposed to be developed during the project implementation? Should they be just a kind of e-mail notifications or dspace built-in alerts, that will show on certain pages? Thank you. Regards, Alexander Sizemin
