Jeffrey Trimble commented on DS-286:
------------------------------------

The current Migrate script doesn't work perfectly as delivered out of the box.
One has to edit the script to make it work. But it can be easily customized to
delete more data than the default migrate or leave some data alone.

If the item exporter -m flag could have some customization, that would be no
problem. Is it possible to add some code in and also add some configuration to
dspace.cfg to make it easy to adjust the migration?

You have mentioned it as -migrate import/export. Does this work on export in
addition as on an import? What would be the difference? Which is better?

This would, bring more of dspace closer to the 100% java goal.

Documentation, is not a problem.

> I propose that we remove the /dspace/bin/dspace_migrate script.
> Reasons:
> 1) It is a bash script, and we would prefer DSpace to be 100% java
> 2) The item exporter now has a -m (migrate) option that will perform the same
> function during the export
> Would anyone have a problem with this script being removed?
> (If it is removed, it needs removing from the PDF manual, and the -migrate
> import/export option needs documenting)
