Larry Stone commented on DS-343:
--------------------------------
Agreed on having one configuration property whose contents are a list.
We also had a requirement here to hide some Communities and Collections
regardless of contents, although it's a low priority.
Also, I would prefer to see the XMLUI driven by a configuration property as
well, because it's a lot harder to find and tweak things in the stylesheets. I
suspect it would be more efficient to remove Collections when generating the
DRI than to try to do the matching by handle in XSL, anyway.
The HideEmpty logic should move into the API (perhaps org.dspace.app.util)
where both UIs and perhaps OAI-PMH can share it. BTW, hiddenHandles ought to
be a Set, implemented by HashSet.
If this wants to go into 1.6, I will handle the XMLUI port.

> We have had many clients request this functionality.
> It adds some new config variables :
> webui.hide.empty-communities = false
> webui.hide.empty-collections = false
> webui.hide.empty-fromadmins = false
> When enabled, the mod will hide Communities and/or Collections that contain
> no items.
> Specific Communities/Collections can also be hidden by specifing them by
> handle:
> webui.hide.handle.1 = 123456789/1
> webui.hide.handle.x = 123456789/2
> etc
> The code changes are within JSPUI and works by filtering hidden objects from
> results.
