Tim Donohue commented on DS-396:
--------------------------------

This issue was reviewed during the DSpace Developer meeting on Dec 9, 2009.
Consensus was that this is a great idea, but that it's likely too late to add
into 1.6.0 (but hopefully for 1.6.1 or a version thereafter). MIT has
evidently already started working on the issue and is currently developing a
fix/patch (led by Sands Fish, I believe). We will leave this issue open until
a patch is available and committed.

[15:32] <jat_ysu> http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-396 Provide metadata
tags used by Google Scholar for enhanced indexing
[15:33] <lcs> I believe MIT is still working on a patch for this. If there were
a patch I'd vote +1
[15:33] <tdonohue> +1 for post 1.6.0 (I've heard through grapevine MIT is
working on this)
[15:34] <mhwood> +1 post 1.6.0
[15:34] <lcs> Last I heard is, they're close but need to get confirmation on
Google on the metadata field names.
[15:34] <jat_ysu> +1 post 1.6.0
[15:34] <ClaudiaJuergen> +1 for the futuer, most instances won't have the
metadata necessary
[15:34] <lcs> +1 post 1.6.0
[15:34] <tdonohue> DS-396 Summary: +5. Mark post-1.6.0. Follow up with MIT folks

> In August 2009 I posted a query to the DSpace general list about whether or
> not anyone else had seen strange indexing of items in DSpace (see
> http://mailman.mit.edu/pipermail/dspace-general/2009-August/002996.html) and
> MacKenzie Smith posted a follow up that stated she had seen the same things
> (http://mailman.mit.edu/pipermail/dspace-general/2009-August/002998.html).
> MacKenzie followed up with Anurag Acharya at Google Scholar to inquire about
> this and he indicated that better support for the Google metatags schema
> would help mitigate this problem. It looks like the metatags are (though we'd
> want to confirm this with the Google Scholar team).
