Hello friend!
As I know, you don´t need to recompile your dspace application to reload
Messages.properties file, you just need to restart your tomcat server after
update the file.
Of course that this file only afect JSPUI interface
[jspui/WEB-INF/classes/*], if you need to change XMLUI interface need change
messages.xml file [xmlui/i18n/*].
By the way, if you need to update your translations need to know that the
language of your browser is important too. If you are using your browser in
english and if you have messages files for english, you will see your dspace
in english even if you have a japanese translation file too.
