Hi all, Apologies for cross posting this message to all the DSpace lists, but we're hoping to raise the profile of our Google Summer of Code projects, and this email will introduce one of those.
One of the students who will be working with us this summer (or winter for those of us in the southern hemisphere!) is Pere Villega. He will be looking at adding some forms of automated testing into the DSpace development practice. This will hopefully have a beneficial impact on us all as it will help us ensure that future versions of DSpace are better tested. Testing is a very large area and is an issue that has been examined at different points in time by different developers. We hope to examine this existing work early on in the project and where appropriate build on it. We also want to create a mentoring team for the project with input from anyone who has an interest in this area. If you do, please get in contact with Pere and myself, and we'll form that team. Here is a brief biography from Pere. As you'll see, Pere already has a working knowledge of DSpace, and has also already contributed code in this area, so we are lucky to be able to work with him further. Pere is currently undertaking a Masters degree in Open Source Software, and we hope that his GSoc experience will help him with that. === I'm Pere Villega, born in Barcelona in 1981. As all good nerds I joined college to become a computer engineer, which in Spain is a 5-years degree, specializing in software design. While studying I was also working in some companies like Atos Origin or Altran in their development teams. After finishing, in 2007 I moved to Ireland as the job situation in Spain wasn't so good (better than now though!) and after a brief stay in a startup that was crushed by the economic crisis I joined Enovation Solutions. There I discovered Dspace and I've been working with it until now. About the project, the idea arose from the initial work done at Enovation Solutions in which we developed some samples on how unit tests could be built for Dspace. We really believe Dspace will benefit from having a set of unit tests available, although we detected some issues with the code that complicate the process. === There is some further information about the project in the DSpace wiki, and we will ensure that this stays up to date as the project becomes more fully defined, and as it is executed: http://wiki.dspace.org/confluence/display/DSPACE/GSOC10+-+Add+Unit+Testing+to+Dspace Many thanks, Stuart Lewis IT Innovations Analyst and Developer Te Tumu Herenga The University of Auckland Library Auckland Mail Centre, Private Bag 92019, Auckland 1142, New Zealand Ph: 64 9 373-7599 x81928 http://www.library.auckland.ac.nz/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ Dspace-devel mailing list Dspace-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dspace-devel
