Hi All,

As some of you may or may not have heard already, at OR10, DuraSpace
will be making an official recommendation that DSpace & Fedora
communities work towards better integration between DSpace and Fedora
software platforms. More specifically, we are recommending further
investigation into running DSpace "on top of" Fedora.

As a part of this proposal, DuraSpace is looking for community input,
feedback, and potentially even volunteers to help investigate how best
to integrate these two platforms.

To begin generating discussion, DuraSpace has created an initial FAQ to
introduce potential approaches to integrating DSpace with the Fedora
platform. This FAQ details a proposed integration strategy, perceived
benefits, and what a potential end result may look like.

We'd appreciate your feedback/suggestions on both the FAQ & this
recommendation in general. If you've been a part of this community for
a while, you may recall this idea has been discussed off-and-on for
years now. Here's an semi-grainy video from 2008 (rediscovered by Peter
Dietz) talking about "DSpace/Fedora Collaboration" (scroll down to the
second video on that page):

I'd encourage you to discuss this topic/idea openly on this
'dspace-devel' listserv (just respond to this email directly). Open
discussion will benefit us all. Critical feedback & playing devil's
advocate is completely welcome. But, also try to keep discussion
productive.

So, please add your thoughts/questions/concerns/ideas to this thread.
Half thought out musings also welcome, as long as they are
semi-productive in nature :)

Thanks all!
