All,

Just an FYI -- the AIP Backup/Restore work is now available on Trunk (as
of r5265)!

A few important things to be aware of:

(1) This code changes the PackageIngester and PackageDisseminator
interfaces. *Any custom, local Packagers using those interfaces will
need refactoring.* (All out-of-the-box DSpace Packagers have already
been refactored to support these interfaces)

(2) Because of changes in #1, the SWORD API needed some refactoring.
This code has been tested (by myself) and seems to function properly.
However, it always helps to have others test it as well.

(3) Because of changes in #1, the LNI API also needed minor refactoring.
UNFORTUNATELY, THIS HAS NOT BEEN WELL TESTED! ANY VOLUNTEERS? Claim
this task in JIRA please: http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-647

(I'm having difficulty getting the 1.6.2 LNI to work properly with the
various WebDAV clients I've tried -- so, I haven't been able to ensure
my modifications work perfectly. Help appreciated!)

The Documentation for how to use this new AIP feature is here:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/AipBackupRestorePrototype

The Development team (myself, Richard Rodgers, Mark Wood & Bill Hays)
are still working on even more improvements -- so expect more features &
improvements as we move closer to 1.7. Latest status is noted at the
bottom of the above wiki page.
