Hardy Pottinger commented on DS-570:
------------------------------------
Hi, I thought I'd give this patch a whirl, since our users have asked for this
feature, and we also use Shibboleth. After applying the 2nd patch (at least, I
hope it's the 2nd patch, I can only find one XMLUI patch attached to this
issue), we are unable to log in. The behavior we see is: new browser session ->
visit home page of dev repository -> click to one of the browse indexes ->
click login -> select shibboleth login -> fill out form on the Shib IdP, submit
-> long pause -> return to form on on the Shib IdP, fill out, submit -> Shib
error page. From a tail of the dspace.log, I can see that the shib
authentication is working. I can confirm this returning to the repository by
re-entering the URL of our dev repository, I can see that I am now logged in. I
haven't been able to track down the admins of the Shib IdP to get them to tail
the IdP's log... but from this behavior, I'd guess that the return URL being
passed to Shib is some URL which returns the user back to the Shib IdP.

> I would like to be able to direct a user to the "current" page after login.
> For example, if a user is not logged in, and they are looking at an item
> page, when they click login, I would like to be able to send them back to the
> item page.
> As it functions now, a user who has found an item they want, then clicked log
> in, will be authenticated and sent either home or to the profile (this option
> is set in dspace.cfg file). This means they will need to find the item they
> wanted again, which is not the most user-friendly.
