Bram Luyten (@mire) commented on DS-560:
----------------------------------------

The difference in configuration and behavior of the news feature in XMLUI vs
JSPUI is an issue for people migrating from JSPUI to XMLUI. It also doesn't
make it easy for people to have a dynamic, changing repository frontpage.

In my personal opinion, the whole frontpage could use some rework to make it
more customizable and dynamic.

> Project: DSpace
> Issue Type: Improvement
> Components: XMLUI
> Affects Versions: 1.5.0, 1.5.1, 1.5.2, 1.6.0
> Environment: Not environment specific
> Reporter: Wendy Bossons
> Priority: Major
>
> The news feature -- both the news-xmlui.xml and related news-side and
> news-top .html files for xmlui live in the dspace/config dir. It seems like
> there should be a better location for these, other than the config dir. When
> changes are made to news, they are not propagated unless the init_config ant
> task is run.
