Hi all,

DuraSpace is applying to become a Mentoring Organization for Google
Summer of Code 2011!

Although we are not guaranteed to be accepted into GSoC 2011, I feel
hopeful as we've taken part in GSoC from 2007-2010. So I'd like to begin
some early preparation as the GSoC 2011 timeline moves rather quickly.

At this point in time, we are looking both for early GSoC Project Ideas
and interested mentors (or co-mentors) for DSpace.

Project ideas can come from anyone in the community, but *must* involve
actually writing code (as this is what GSoC is all about!). They should
also be scoped such that they can be completed within a summer. Feel
free to add your project ideas to this wiki page:

Mentors should be an active DSpace community developer. It is not
required that you be a DSpace Committer, but it is recommended that you
try to find a Committer who is willing to "sponsor" the project
(essentially the Committer will help us try to get the finished code
into DSpace, if possible). If you are not a Committer, but want to be a
GSoC Mentor, I can also work with you to find someone to "sponsor" your
project. If you are interested in mentoring this year, please add your
name to this list (also feel free to note potential GSoC projects you'd
be interested in mentoring):

If you have any questions, just ask! We'll know whether or not we've
been accepted to GSoC 2011 on Friday, March 18. Assuming we are accepted
into GSoC, we'll continue to accept project ideas all the way until
March 27th.
