Hi all,
I am Mahesh Gondi, pursuing Bachelors(currently Semester-6) in Computer
Science at Indian Institute of Technology , Banaras Hindi University ,
Varanasi(India) .I have got some good amount of experience in JavaEE,
Flex/AIR and AS3 and am planning to work on the project idea *RTMP A/V
streaming integration. *I had looked into Red5(sometime ago) and have been
developing in Java , Adobe Flex/AIR , AS3 and below are some of my own ideas
along with the very rough implementation thoughts ,
I couldn't find any good alternative to Red5(being Free in terms of
open-source) for current implementation. My plans(in an abstract state
currently) incorporate designing an appropriate interface for various DSpace
related interaction(like authentication, authorization and bitstream
dissemination) and the same interface then shall be implemented for
different RTMP servers(starting with Red5, later the implementation can be
~duplicated for other rtmp servers too). Such an interface other than easing
the development and maintenance, will also be in a good working state if
there are any plans of client for choosing a different RTMP server(which may
be proprietary like Adobe LCDS). On the application layer side, in addition
to Audion/Video player, applications like chat module(using shared objects
in Red5) can easily be implemented. Audio/Video player can be enriched with
the ability to play the presentation and with a system where user can post
comments on a particular audio/video/ppt. The new content player can be
designed to play in a synchronized manner among the various client. With the
cool support from Adobe External Interface API we can make the behavior of
it more active,instead of just behaving like an embedded object mute to the
other components of the page .
Thoughts/ideas are invited to help me decide the final outcome. Soon I will
try to submits mock-ups on the ideas I have discussed above.
