Jose Blanco commented on DS-587:
--------------------------------
I have made the changes based on the recommendations made here.
Take a look at the tombstone.zip file I have attached. It contains a README
file with the changes and directions for implementing this patch.
Here are the highlights associated with this patch:
1. Users will now be able to give a reason when they withdraw an item. (
tombstone )
2 The reasons are now stored int the Message.properties file for better
configuration. There are 3.
3. All withdrawn items will output a HttpServletResponse.SC_NOT_FOUND status.
3. A configurable dspace.cfg parameter has been added so that viewing a
tombstone page is given to specific group ids.
4. A tombstone page will show the metadata associated with the item, the
reason for withdrawing the item, but users will not be allowed to access the
bitstream.

> I have already made the changes to our instance of dspace. Here is an
> explanation of what the tombstone functionality works at our instance.
> When an item is withdrawn the user is presented with these options for
> the reason of withdraw ( these reasons live in the file
> tools/confirm-withdraw-item.jsp ):
> Removed from view by legal order.
> Removed from view by the University of Michigan.
> Removed from view at request of the author.
> The user makes his selection and the item is withdrawn. When the item is
> accessed the reason for the withdraw is
> displayed in the box containing the bitstreams.
