Tim Donohue commented on DS-964:
--------------------------------
A few minor things that I noticed while glancing at the patches (most can
likely all be cleaned up during the commit though):
* I noticed that the cclicenseWS-diff.txt patch defaults the CC License page to
enabled now (it uncomments the definition in item-submission.xml). I'm not sure
if we want to switch it to be enabled by default, unless others think that is a
necessary change (do most institutions use CC licensing?)
* Again in cclicenseWS-diff.txt, the changes to the dri2xhtml/DIM-Handler.xsl
seems to remove the ability for the XMLUI to display the DSpace License
Agreement. (I.e. they remove the [@USE='LICENSE'] call). Unless I'm mistaken,
I think that may actually mean that no institution can ever display the DSpace
License Agreement in the XMLUI. This used to be controlled by the
'webui.licence_bundle.show' setting in dspace.cfg (but I don't think that
config will function properly in the XMLUI unless all those [@USE='LICENSE']
statements are added back in.)
* I also noticed that several of the patches revert some Java classes back to
the old-style, longer DSpace License header. Obviously, we will need to ensure
that all Java classes have the new, shortened License header.
Just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of this minor issues.

> Creative Commons hosts a web service that can supply the user interface
> elements that DSpace needs to provide a complete user experience in DSpace,
> with respect to the Creative Commons license step. This patch implements the
> Creative Commons web service api to support the user interface selections,
> item view and search.
> DSpace currently takes an integration approach to selecting a Creative
> Commons (CC) license during the submission process that results in an awkward
> user experience. This patch proposes to simplify the user experience through
> implementing the CC License API in the submission process. This patch also
> adds searchability to the CCLicensed items by storing the license uri as
> metadata.
> As well, the license rdf acquisition is separated from the submission process
> into a curation task.
> A future CC task(s) may address the issue of updating or migrating existing
> CC license data.
