Tim Donohue commented on DS-1023:
---------------------------------
Just a quick comment on why the submission pages work this way.
Currently, we specifically disable any presses of the "Enter" / "Return" button
during the submission process. The reason why is that if a user would
accidentally press Enter/Return, it would submit the form on the page and
advance them to the next page automatically (or display an error if they didn't
fill out a required field). So, the decision was made to disable any clicks on
Enter/Return, so that users could more easily control the process of advancing
to the next page.
However, this currently disables *all* presses of Enter/Return, which means
that users also cannot enter linebreaks into any form fields.
There may be ways around this (I'm not sure, I haven't looked at it in a long
time). But, I wanted to be sure to explain why this happens.
Hopefully others may have ideas on how we could potentially support this in the
future.

> Currently, linebreaks or enters are not allowed in metadata textboxes. In the
> usecase of Description or Abstract, it's often the case that the text
> contains paragraphs. Including these paragraphs will increase readability for
> the end users. Furthermore, not being able to hit enter in a paragraph
> textbox (not talking about text fields) is not the expected behaviour of such
> a field.
> Its my understanding that the current behaviour is by design, and not
> identified as a bug. I do hope that these arguments will allow a
> re-consideration.
