From the pgsql-announce list, today:

The PostgreSQL community will stop releasing updates for version 8.2
later this year. Users are encouraged to upgrade to a newer version as
soon as possible. See our release support policy:
  http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/PostgreSQL_Release_Support_Policy

Our documentation recommends 8.2-8.4. For the first post-1.8.0
release, we should review that. What can we say about using Pg v9
with DSpace?

I've one modest production site which has been running on 9.0.4 for
some months with no complaints. Latest seems to be 9.1.1.
