Hi Eric, Thanks for getting in touch. DS-722 sounds like an ideal little project, however the JIRA issue gives the solution already, which means this just needs testing, and then committing to the central source code repository by one of the DSpace committers.
If you want a project that might take a little longer (nearer the two weeks you have), then I'm sure we can think of something, and if we don't have a JIRA ticket already open for it, then we can open a new one. One issue I've seen requested is for the ability to create DSpace users from the command line. At present, one of the first tasks that is performed when DSpace is installed is to create an admin user. This user can then log in to the web interface, and create other users. It would also be nice to be able to create normal (non-admin) users from the command line, so that they can be created for automatic tests, by scripts, or for some other purpose. If this sort of thing sounds interesting, get back in touch, and we can open a JIRA ticket, and help you out with getting a copy of DSpace up and running, and making code changes ready to submit a patch.
