Is there any sympathy for pulling the password authentication support
out of EPerson and probably tucking it into PasswordAuthentication?
Perhaps also moving the database columns out to a separate table?

Having identity stuff and (one variety of) credentials in the same
object feels like mixing separate concerns, and a leftover from the
days when password authentication was all there was.
